Fun Summer Activities

Getting out and having fun in the summer weather may start in June, but the fun keeps on rolling until later August. That’s a lot of time to fill which means you might run short on fun activities for friends and family. Fortunately, you’re not alone in your summer adventures. We here at Richard Karr Motors know of some fun summer activities to take part in this season!

Take a Road Trip

Packing up your truck or SUV and hitting the open road opens up the potential for a fantastic memory-making road trip. Even singles can hit the road and experience something new that they may have never seen or heard of before. There are plenty of interesting places around the United States that are best explored in an off-road-capable truck, like the GMC Canyon. Best of all, a truck can double as a bed with just a few accessories!

Have a Picnic

Whether you’re alone or with friends and family, having a picnic at a local park is a great way to spend a summer day. Pack a basket with your favorite foods, like sandwiches and cookies, grab a blanket, and set out for a wonderful day under the summer sun.

Sit Outside

Most people are fully aware of just how hot it can get under the summer sun. Sometimes it can feel too hot to engage in any activity. Fortunately, just sitting around outside is a great way to enjoy the day until the temperature drops in the evening.

2018 GMC Yukon Denali Updates

The Denali line has long been world-renowned as one of the most luxurious offerings in the industry thanks to its use of high-end premium materials, bold stance, and aggressive engine. Now the 2018 GMC Yukon Denali is raising the bar with a new look and some near gear under the hood.

Style comes standard in all Denali models and the GMC Yukon is one of the first to get a refreshed look. A new thin-and-thick front grille offers a more aggressive design and looks similar to the Terrain and Acadia. The Yukon Denali grille also comes equipped with automatic shutters to help reduce drag.

The 2018 GMC Yukon Denali is the third model under the General Motors umbrella to feature the new 10-speed automatic transmission. That new transmission comes mated to a standard 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers an impressive 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Official fuel economy figures aren’t out just yet, but General Motors expects the new 10-speed automatic to deliver better numbers than the outgoing eight-speed automatic.

Of course, no Denali is complete without a high-end interior and the Yukon Denali is no exception. The 2018 model features Mastique Ash real wood throughout the cabin. Drivers will also enjoy three rows of leather-lined seating and incredible towing capability.

We here at Richard Karr Motors are pumped to get behind the wheel of the new 2018 GMC Yukon Denali!

Check Out These Pumpkin Carving Safety Tips Before You Start Your Masterpiece

It is everyone’s favorite time of the year again: fall! As the temperature begins to go down and the leaves begin to get crispy, many fall traditions are sure to be in full swing soon. For one thing, it’s just about time to check out the local pumpkin patch.

Once you’ve picked out your pumpkin (or a few!) and are ready to carve it, be sure to think about these pumpkin carving safety tips:

  • Try to find a pumpkin with a flat bottom that will not roll away from you when placed on a similarly flat surface.
  • Be sure to purchase quality carving tools designed specifically for this purpose, which are less likely to cause injury.
  • Never let children carve pumpkins unsupervised, and be sure to have first-aid materials handy, just in case.
  • Carve your pumpkin in a clean, debris-free area that is well lit, despite the timely, spooky allure of your garage.
  • Lastly, keep a Ziploc bags and garbage bags ready to collect pumpkin seeds or throw away the inside gunk, keeping your carving space free for elbow room.

The Differences Between Chemical and Physical Sunscreen and Which to Choose

Do you know the differences between chemical and physical sunscreen? If not, it may surprise you.

Whether you’re spending a long day at the beach or just tending to your lawn on a sunny day, it’s vital to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays, which can cause sunburns, signs of aging, and even skin cancer.

However, not all sunscreens are made equally. Physical sunscreen is fully functional as soon as you put it on your skin, creating a barrier that lasts until it is rubbed or washed off. This means that physical sunscreen isn’t the best choice for swimming.

On the other hand, chemical sunscreen is water resistant, and is sure to protect you for a few hours after applying, no matter what. But – chemical sunscreen takes about 20 minutes to go into effect, and must be re-applied every 2-3 hours.

Differences Between Chemical and Physical SunscreenDepending on your plans, physical or chemical sunscreen may be the right choice. And thankfully – some sunscreens have both properties! Here are some common names of chemical and physical properties, to help you read the bottles.

Great (and Cheap) Last Minute Gifts for Car Lovers

Christmas is just two weeks away, and if you’re anything like us, there’s a good chance you haven’t gotten through all your gift-shopping yet (and won’t until approximately December 24th). However, have no fear! Here’s our quick hit-list of ace-in-the-hole last minute gifts for car lovers (or just the friend you know spends hours each day in their vehicle).

Consider getting them an in-car emergency first aid kit. Not only are these relatively cheap, but your friend or loved one will know that you deeply care for their survival.

Or, if “I deeply care for your survival” isn’t the message you’re ready to send someone yet (especially for a significant other if you’re not planning a proposal soon; nothing says “marry me” like a AAA 85-piece First Aid Kit), then consider a super-comfy gel seat cover. The message is a little less life-changing, more “I deeply care for your general comfort.”

Finally, if neither of those sounds just right, why not just get them a cool highway map of their home state? These are modern and stylish and they’ll appreciate how worldly and well-travelled it makes them appear. Perk: it’s much cheaper than most art prints, but just as sophisticated (depending on the art print).

Don’t fret about those last minute gifts for car lovers in your life, there are plenty of options out there!
