Optimize Your Commute

Imagine you could take your long commute and turn it into a productive, enjoyable time. With Buick and GMC Infotainment technology, you can. Check out these tips on how to use your car’s infotainment systems to make the most of your regular commutes.

Enjoy hands-free phone capabilities

Both the Buick and GMC infotainment systems come with Bluetooth® hands-free phone capabilities. This tool lets you place and receive calls and text messages without taking their hands off the wheel. With this feature, a commute becomes an opportunity to catch up with a friend or family member — or just get work-related calls out of the way while on the road.

Charge your devices

The Buick and GMC infotainment technology includes USB ports that can not only sync a device with the system but can also charge the device while you’re on the road. Multiple available USB ports provide additional charging opportunities for passengers throughout the cabin.

Link with your media

With Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto capabilities, Buick and GMC infotainment lets drivers sync their compatible devices with the in-cabin touch screen. This brings things like personal playlists and podcasts to the touchscreen, where media options are easy to access and navigate. With this feature, it’s easy to spend your commute listening to audiobooks or enjoying your favorite podcast.

General Motors Files Trademark for New Buick Crossover

New Buick Crossover

General Motors recently filed an application to trademark the Enspire name. The application indicates the manufacturer may have plans to introduce a new Buick crossover to the United States market.

According to the application, General Motors plans to use the trademark on a new vehicle. This is the second time the automaker has filed an application for the Enspire name. The first application was filed back in 2015.

This news is not entirely a surprise, considering that the automaker recently unveiled an Enspire crossover concept in China. Chinese drivers applauded the sleek styling and advanced infotainment and safety technologies of the model.

We don’t know much about the potential new Enspire vehicle, but we can assume a few things based on the Chinese Enspire concept. The upcoming crossover will share the E2 platform the Buick Regal currently rides on. The model will include advanced safety systems, like Automatic Park Assist. The new Buick model will likely be the same size as the range-topping Envision. The Enspire will stand on its own as a top-tier trim with more luxurious amenities and technologies.

Current projections indicate the new Buick Enspire will arrive sometime in 2019 and 2020. While you wait for this model’s U.S. release, why not stop by Richard Karr Buick GMC to test-drive one of our other shiny new Buick models?

2019 Buick Regal Avenir Trim

Buick Regal Avenir Trim

If you’re in the market for a new sedan, make sure to check out the 2019 Buick Regal Avenir trim. The Buick Regal Avenir raises the bar for the luxury segment, while offering consumers the gratifying powertrain and advanced safety technologies they crave.

The Buick Regal Avenir trim boasts exclusive diamond quilt-stitched front seats with Avenir branding, and embroidered headrests. A Whisper Beige interior with ebony accents creates a sophisticated cabin on par with more expensive rivals.

Tech-savvy drivers will enjoy a standard eight-inch touch-screen display with the Buick infotainment system and navigation. A Bose® eight-speaker audio system increases sound clarity to elevate the listening experience.

A unique style helps set the 2019 Buick Regal Avenir apart from other luxury sedans. 19-inch Pearl Nickel wheels lend a modern, athletic vibe often reserved for more expensive competitors. A three-dimensional mesh grille and Avenir sill plates provide a touch of sophistication. Avenir badging on the front doors lets everyone know that this Buick Regal is a step above the rest.

Like other Buick Regal Sportback models, the Avenir trim features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This combination generates a healthy 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, which should suit moderate energy needs.

Notably, the Buick Regal Avenir comes standard with the Driver Confidence Package I. This package includes wireless charging and heated exterior mirrors. LED headlights, cornering lights, and auto-leveling headlights make the Buick Regal Avenir more visible in dim driving conditions.

The Driver Confidence Package I also incorporates the latest driver assist features. Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane Change Alert with Blind-Spot Monitoring join forces to help prevent an accident before it occurs.

Buick Adds Yelp Reservations App to Infotainment System

Yelp Reservations App

Ever wanted the convenience of making restaurant reservations on the go? Now you can with their Buick Infotainment System. GM recently announced plans to add the Yelp Reservations app to the GM Infotainment System marketplace, allowing drivers of GM vehicles to reserve tables without having to pick up the phone.

The process is fairly simple: the app automatically searches for and detects all restaurants within a 25-mile radius. Drivers can then search by cuisine type to narrow their search. Once the driver selects a restaurant, they can view the average rating for the restaurant, place a time for the restaurant, and reserve seats (with a maximum cap of ten people). If you have any questions about this process, the app gives drivers the option of calling the restaurant to complete the reservation over the phone.

Aside from the Yelp Reservations app, the Buick Infotainment System also allows for conveniences such as ordering ahead at takeout places (or at Starbucks). You can even pay for gas from inside your vehicle, for a more secure alternative to paying at the pump. The Marketplace, including the new Yelp app, is offered on all 2017 or newer GM vehicles.

Luxury Avenir Trim Coming to the 2019 Buick Regal

Luxury Avenir Trim

Buick customers are going wild over the luxury Avenir trim, and the automaker is looking to meet their demands. The Avenir trim is currently only available on the Buick Enclave and LaCrosse trims. According to a recent GM fleet order guide, the 2019 Buick Regal Sportback will be the next model to receive the Avenir treatment.

The midsize Buick Regal Sportback sedan will expand the Avenir offering to drivers who don’t want a crossover or full-size sedan. Notably, the Buick Regal TourX wagon won’t receive an Avenir trim this coming model year.

The 2019 Regal Avenir will feature a nine-speed automatic transmission that optimizes performance output and efficiency. Leather upholstery and an eight-speaker Bose® premium audio system lend a sophisticated vibe to the cabin. 19-inch Pearl Nickel wheels and distinctive badging make the Avenir trim stand out on the road.

The Buick’s Driver Confidence I package comes standard on the Regal Avenir trim. That package includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert, and Rear Park Assist. It also incorporates heated outside mirrors, as well as four-way lumbar adjustment for the driver’s seat

The Driver Confidence II package elaborates on the previous package, but also includes Forward Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Lane Keep Assist. Another perk of the Buick Regal Sportback Avenir is that it will cost less than the sport-inspired Regal GS.

myBuick App Upgrade Monitors Driving Habits for Insurance Discounts

It’s common knowledge that responsible drivers with safe driving habits are often eligible for insurance discounts. However, sometimes monitoring your driving habits for insurance purposes can be a hassle. The myBuick app upgrade is changing that. Not only will the app monitor driving habits and provide drivers with available insurance discounts, but it will also alert you about specific poor driving habits and offer tips for improving your driving tendencies.

Buick’s web-based Smart Driver service launched back in 2016, which used OnStar diagnostics to give drivers insight into their driving. It also allows users of the Smart Driver service to sign up for insurance discounts while keeping their information private. The Smart Driver services have now been integrated into the myBuick app to provide users with even more convenience and accessibility.

Regular reports from the myBuick app will inform drivers of their gas mileage, how often they make hard brakes or accelerate quickly, the frequency of high-speed or nighttime drives, and total miles they’ve driven. In addition to a Smart Driver score that rates safe driving habits, it will also provide tips for improving that score. As more drivers get access to the myBuick app upgrade, Buick expects the current number of Insurance Discounts Eligibility program members (approximately 100,000) to increase.

Besides pursuing safe driving habits, you can also choose a safe vehicle to enhance your protection on the road. Stop by Richard Karr Buick GMC to take one of our reliable models for a test drive.

The First-Ever Concept Car: 1938 Buick Y Job Makes an Appearance in Jay Leno’s Garage

Jay Leno’s Garage, hosted by Jay Leno, routinely reviews and features classic cars and motorcycles. This past February, fans of GM and the brand’s glorious past got a treat: a historic GM vehicle—the 1938 Buick Y Job—made an appearance on the show, rolling up and looking classic and sleek alongside General Motors’ president of Global Design, Michael Simcoe.

The 1938 Buick Y Job was the first-ever concept car. Concept cars differ from production vehicles, as they are never intended for production for public use. Rather, they typically debut innovative, state-of-the-art technology and design, providing a sneak peek into what’s to come from the automaker. There are only seven Buick Y Job models, and that’s why it’s so remarkable that one was featured on Jay Leno’s Garage.  As Leno said on the show, “[This is] probably the most famous car in the history of General Motors.” No one quite knows how the concept car got its name, but some speculate that it has to do with “Y” meaning prototype within the aerospace industry, or that it indicates a step beyond traditional “Project X” products.

The Buick Y Job makes quite an impression, featuring a low and long body that looks properly sophisticated. It featured innovative technology for its time, including power windows, a power-retractable roof, and an automatic transmission in place of the clutch pedal.

Buick Named Winner of J.D. Power Total Ownership Experience Award

When it comes to customer satisfaction, we here at Richard Karr Buick GMC can attest that few brands do it better than Buick – and J.D. Power seems to agree. The automotive experts at J.D. Power recently named Buick the first-ever mass-market auto manufacturer brand to receive its new Total Ownership Experience award.

To earn this award, automotive brands must offer customers an excellent experience through all stages of the vehicle buying and ownership process. The winners of the award are decided after being reviewed in five categories: sales, appearance, service, long-term reliability, and initial quality.

According to Doug Betts, senior vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, “We continue to examine every aspect of customers’ opinions on vehicle sales, quality, and dependability, as well as dealership customer service. Addressing these areas effectively creates repeat buyers and brand advocates, so it’s important for manufacturers and dealers to listen, learn, and continue to evolve with the times.”

The Total Ownership Experience award only goes to brands that do well in five other studies from J.D. Power: Execution and Layout (APEAL), Automotive Performance, Customer Service Index (CSI), Initial Quality Study (IQS), Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI), and Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS).

Buick managed to come out on top in last year’s J.D. Power Sales Satisfaction Index and Customer Service Index as well.
