Tips for Handling Highway Driving

Tips for handling highway drivingFor some people, driving on the highway can be intimidating. That’s understandable, considering the traffic and high speeds. So, here are some tips for handling highway driving to calm your nerves.

Keep Your Distance

The closer you follow to other cars on the highway, the easier it would be to get in an accident. Leave at least two to three car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Think About Lane Changes

The best way to ease your anxiety about lane changes is to plan them ahead of time. Think about what exit you’ll be taking so that you’ll know where you need to be and have time to get over to the lane. That way, there’s no last-minute panic about getting into a lane.

Learn Left from Right

Know when to stay in what lane. Stay in the right lane if you’re going slow (the speed limit or under) and use the left lane to pass. The middle lane is great for maintaining a speed and passing when you need to.

Stay Consistent

As much as possible, try to keep a steady speed. Don’t worry about other drivers; they’ll pass you if they need to.
